What is CBD?

What exactly is CBD? CBD is the medical abbreviation for cannabidiol and comes from the cannabis Sativa plant family of which Marijuana and Industrial Hemp are most common. CBD is non-psychoactive and is famed for its health benefits. Many CBD products are the result of being extracted from hemp plants, which are a strain of cannabis that have very high levels of CBD.

There are said to be around one hundred compounds in cannabis Sativa plants, and CBD and THC are two of the primary active compounds. They both have significantly different reputations, and there are notable differences between them. By binding to CB1 and CB2 receptors found throughout the whole body, CBD interacts with and protects these receptors, bringing healing and relief without any intoxicating repercussions.

How does CBD affect the body?

To really have any insight into how CBD affects the body, you first have to understand a little bit about the endocannabinoid system, which was only discovered by doctors and scientists thirty years ago. The discovery of this system has led to in-depth and pioneering research by leading experts, including Dr. David Allen M.D., a retired cardiac surgeon and cannabinoid research specialist.

The endocannabinoid system is a communications network that runs throughout the whole body, and unlike the central nervous system, which is electrical, the endocannabinoid system is chemical. Dr. David Allen M.D. says: “It’s the hormone system that we have been familiar with, the body creates endocannabinoids which perform some miraculous functions across the body.”

As CBD research continues to expand, it is safe to say it is an intelligent oil that responds to each individual according to its needs, as it reacts to, protects, and brings balance to receptors throughout the body by interacting with the endocannabinoid system.

We are excited to see where the research and discoveries lead those in the medical and holistic health care professionals, as well as how it continues to be a resource to individuals reporting great benefits from its use.

What type of CBD should I choose?
